Nervous Patients

When a visit to the dentist is something you dread

At The Forum our patients’ comfort and ease is the most important thing to us.

We appreciate that not everyone finds a dental surgery an easy place to be and long held fears can stop a patient receiving regular and vital dental care.

There is an answer for people who feel anxious or even reluctant to visit the dentist - unless they are in pain or in need of emergency treatment, something more likely to come about when visits to the dentist aren’t regular.

A revolutionary new technique now available at The Forum could bring hope.

‘Conscious sedation’ is an effective method of reducing patient anxiety during treatment, and does not require local anaesthetic.

Instead, sedation consists of drugs delivered either intravenously or orally in order to dull sensory reactions and nervous sensations without any actual loss of consciousness. Those undergoing treatment remain awake and able to participate in the process. Not only does this new approach facilitate pain-free dental treatment, patients also find this very relaxing..

Furthermore, common anxieties associated with both anaesthetic and instruments are removed, making treatment a much less daunting prospect.

Dr Keith Jackson, founder of The Forum, believes conscious sedation will have a positive impact upon the choices available to nervous patients:-

‘There are many people who are unable to receive routine dental treatment as a result of an extreme fear of dentistry. Conscious sedation can help them to overcome this fear and benefit once more from essential dental care.’
